Impromptu Shakespeare bring award-winning comedy show to Suffolk
Sad that Shakespeare hasn’t written anything new for over 400 years? Well, hold onto your doublets, ruffs and hose because thanks to Impromptu Shakespeare, The Bard is back - and heading to a Suffolk theatre!
This October at New Street Market in Woodbridge, the leading touring ensemble will create a brand-new hit in front of your very eyes, inspired by audience suggestions. Yes, with story and verse improvised in the moment, you get to enjoy a riotous new Shakespeare play for 2026, all performed by a whip-smart cast.
But, never fear, while each show is brand new and different, they remain unmistakably Shakespearean, echoing his themes, characters and language. Packed with priceless wit, lyrical smarts, romance and a dash of double-crossing, they always aim to do the Bard proud - just with a heavy dose of accessible irreverence, making it perfect for fans, families and children (age guidance 12+).

Impromptu Shakespeare have been a smash hit at the Edinburgh Fringe, Bristol Shakespeare Festival, appeared on BBC Shakespeare Live, and were the winners of Best Comedy Event at the Buxton Fringe.
The company boasts not only leading theatrical and comedic improvisers, but also have a broad array of education and experience in classical text: dissertations on Shakespeare’s works, classical acting training and a multitude of acclaimed Shakespeare credits (including with Shakespeare’s Globe).
The cast includes some of the UK’s most experienced improvisers, including: Ailis Duff (Glamazon Prime: The Improvised Musical, Red Rose Chain), Daniel South (Adventures of the Improvised Sherlock Holmes, Screwball), Octavia Gilmore (Butterfly Theatre, MusicBox, Multiverse Improv), Jules Munns (The Maydays, Ten Thousand Million Love Stories), Rebecca MacMillan (The Maydays, Adventures of the Improvised Sherlock Holmes, Steamed! The Improvised Dickens Novel), James Irving (Shakespeare for Breakfast, Bumper Blyton), and Tom Wilkinson (Adventures of the Improvised Sherlock Holmes, Screwball).
