Award-winning comedy show comes to Sudbury

Comedy shows Suffolk 2026

Fresh from a sell-out tour of New Zealand, the twisting and inventive comedy show, ‘Pub Tales’, comes to The Quay Theatre in Sudbury this April.

Written and performed by award-winning storyteller, Chris Sainton-Clark, the show is based around Chris’s frustrating and hilarious experiences of working in pubs. After years of toiling away behind a rural bar, witnessing fist-fights, fruit-machine addicts, lecherous old men and compulsive liars, he decided to consolidate those experiences into song form.

His latest performance includes stories of a legend in the pub known only for his blatant lies, a drag queen who could make any bigot get up and dance, a hopeless romantic named Barry and many more.

In 2025, ‘Pub Tales’ picked up the Prague Fringe Creative Award, as well as a nomination for the Brian’s Life Comedy Award.

Chris is a Norfolk-based comedian and playwright who decided to leave his job and chase a career in the arts. Since embarking on his journey as a storyteller, Chris has played Glastonbury Festival, won 11 theatre awards and sold out his 2025 comedy tour in New Zealand.

He blends comedy, rhythmic guitar patterns and spoken word together to create a truly unique sound; one that draws on something entirely relatable to anyone who’s ever stepped foot in a local boozer.

He says: “I love performing this show and hearing audience members share similar stories of their local pubs. I’m particularly excited to be at the Quay Theatre, and to be returning to East Anglia to perform back in my home region after being away so long!”

Pub Tales is at The Quay Theatre, Sudbury on 25 April 2026.
