Bury St Edmunds to host new promenade production this August

Suffolk theatre shows bury st edmunds

Imagine strolling through the heart of Bury St Edmunds on a warm summer evening, caught up in a hilarious love story unfolding all around you.

Not just a Friday night outside the clubs, but an exciting new production from Theatre Royal.

Steve And Steff For Ever, which opens on August 1, transforms the town into a stage, turning familiar landmarks, bustling businesses, and secret side streets into the backdrop for romantic disasters, laugh-out-loud encounters, and unexpected moments of magic. Audience members will wear headphones so every line of dialogue, sound effect, and musical cue is delivered directly to their ears, creating an immersive and unforgettable theatrical experience as they follow the this new immersive romcom around Bury St Edmunds.

Commissioned by Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds and their Commissioning Circle, the show brings high-quality theatre outside of the Theatre Royal’s historic building in a bold new format the town has never seen before.

Of course, the production’s outdoor nature adds to its excitement, and performance times have been carefully selected to give audiences the chance to enjoy a full evening in Bury - whether that’s grabbing drinks beforehand or heading out for dinner afterwards.

But what is the story, you ask?

Steff is impulsive, easily bored, easily distracted, always looking for where the fun is. Steve doesn’t like surprises, batch cooks his lunch for the week and chooses his clothes based on the weather. They meet by chance on a heady summer evening when there’s magic in the air and, for all their differences, fall in love before our very eyes. But when you’re in your mid-thirties, with some bad choices behind you and some big milestones ahead, making a choice on who to spend the rest of your life with is easier said than done. If only they could ignore the small print, jump in, let the current take them…

With its sharp wit, big heart and totally unique format, Steve And Steff For Ever is an intoxicating love story that will leave you feeling like the world is just a little more romantic. Like the stars are a little brighter. Like anything is possible...

It’s funny, fresh, and not to be missed.
