Quay Theatre show celebrates the golden age of harmony music

Step back into the golden age of harmony music next month, as The Quay Theatre in Sudbury welcomes ‘The Story of Doo-Wop’ to the stage.

Combining live performance with storytelling, the show traces the origins of one of America’s most influential musical genres.

Emerging from street corners, barbershops and churches during the early 1950s, Doo-Wop’s rich vocal harmonies helped pave the way for the birth of rock ’n’ roll and inspired generations of artists that followed.

Hosted by radio disc jockey Chuck Anderson, the evening features a selection of timeless classics performed live by accalimed vocal quartet, The TestostaTones, including ‘Blue Moon’, ‘Earth Angel’, ‘Why Do Fools Fall in Love’, ‘Runaround Sue’, ‘Teenager in Love’ and many more.

Widely regarded as one of the UK’s premier Doo-Wop groups, The TestostaTones are known for their tight four-part harmonies and nostalgic 1950s-inspired style. They have performed for Her Majesty The Queen, appeared live on BBC Radio 2 and entertained audiences at some of the country’s most iconic venues.

Group member, Richard Ainslie, says: “We are really looking forward to performing at The Quay Theatre. It’s always a joy to bring this music to life, and we can’t wait to share the experience with the audience.”

Blending nostalgia, humour and exceptional close-harmony vocals, The Story of Doo-Wop promises an entertaining evening celebrating the music that shaped a generation.

The Story of Doo-Wop is at The Quay Theatre, Sudbury on 11 July 2026.
